I read this book in the span of one night. That's the first thing you need to keep in mind about it, the length and flow of prose means it reads fast. Not a bad thing at all. Sure there's typo errors, and a slight amateur youth to it. That doesn't matter. The young works of some famous authors are the most endearing despite the flaws, if they had a great story you overlooked the minor flaws and loved it. This has a great story. The book literally starts with a bang, with visceral descriptions and brutal actions like a modern day thriller with Lovecraftian themes. Then after about 10 pages or so it takes a jump to the left and ends up in fantasy/fairytale territory. I was presently surprised. The story charges along in a mist, literally, unable to see what's rushing up to it, until you uncover plot twist after plot twist that leave you short of breath at every turn. Just when I thought I knew what would happen next, when I thought I had estimated where the plot was headed, it tugged me in unexpected directions. Yet it is fluid, there's no uncomfortable jerky transitions. Things just get weirder and weirder, though the weirdness slowly makes sense in it's own strange way. You feel uneasy with the story but comfortable with the narrative. Until the end, when it takes you exactly where it knew it was going, but leaves you breathless and horrified.
It's like the fiction of my youth. It reminds me of why I use to read Stephen King and Piers Anthony and H P Lovecraft. Overall it reminds me of a Guillermo Del Toro story, where you have all these innocent childhood fairy tale elements mixed in with the dark horrors of human violence: where people are more monstrous then monsters. It reminds me of why I started reading, and why I started writing.
I'd suggest anyone to pick this up and read it.

The Rot Queen edition by William R Spear Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
I found this story to be well written, colorful, and suspenseful. The author paints a picture that pulls you in, and keeps you on your toes. I look forward to more from Mr. Spear - he's got a bright future ahead of him.
I've just finished reading The Rot Queen, and I must say that I am most impressed. It was offered as a free download for a few days, but even had it not I would have gladly purchased it. William Spear takes you on a journey that is part fantasy, part sci-fi, and has elements of horror and that of a thriller. While reading The Rot Queen, I found that it resembled something of an Alice In Wonderland tale fused with The Hills Have Eyes. I was entranced early on by the world that had created itself before me and finished the book in one sitting without a pause.
The Rot Queen is an overall fantastic read, and I would recommend it to those interested in the fantasy, sci-fi, or light horror genres. I gave it 4 out of 5 starts only because of a few errors that I found in the book (a statement repeated, wrong word used, etc). Nothing that distracts from the reading experience, mind you.
